Jack Wilshere is apparently Luton’s top pick to become the new manager, taking over from Matt Bloomfield who got the boot this week. The ex-Arsenal player has been jobless since leaving Norwich in the summer. Wilshere, 33, took on the role of first-team coach at the Canaries in October 2024. He even stepped in as caretaker manager for the last two games of the season after Johannes Hoff Thorup got the boot, managing to win one and draw one. But, he lost out on the permanent manager job to Liam Manning.

Luton has had a tough time in League One this season, with five losses in their first 11 matches after getting relegated two seasons in a row. The BBC reports that Wilshere is the top choice for the Hatters to replace Bloomfield. Other contenders like Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens were also considered, but it seems like Wilshere has won them over. He spent over two years as the head coach of Arsenal Under-18s after retiring in 2022. Wilshere led the U18s to the final of the 2023 FA Youth Cup, where they lost to West Ham. Some familiar faces in that Arsenal team were Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who have since made it to the first team.

Wilshere, who earned 34 caps for England and played nearly 200 games for Arsenal, also had stints at Bolton and Bournemouth on loan. He moved to West Ham from Arsenal in 2018 before going back to Bournemouth and eventually joining Danish side AGF. Throughout his career, he played under the guidance of managers like Arsene Wenger, Fabio Capello, and Eddie Howe. Wilshere called it quits at the age of 30 due to injury.

Maybe it’s just me, but Jack Wilshere seems to be the frontrunner for the Luton manager position after Matt Bloomfield got the axe. The former Arsenal player, who’s been twiddling his thumbs since leaving Norwich, took on the role of first-team coach at Norwich in October 2024. He even filled in as caretaker manager for the last two games of the season, managing to pull off one win and one draw. Not really sure why this matters, but Wilshere missed out on the permanent manager gig to Liam Manning.

Luton’s League One campaign has been a bit of a disaster this season, with five losses in their first 11 matches post-relegation. The BBC spilled the tea that Wilshere is the top choice for Luton to replace Bloomfield. They also had their eye on Leyton Orient’s Richie Wellens, but it looks like Wilshere has won them over. He spent a good chunk of time as the head coach of Arsenal Under-18s post-retirement in 2022. Wilshere even led the U18s to the final of the 2023 FA Youth Cup, where they fell short to West Ham. Familiar faces in that Arsenal squad were Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who have since moved up to the first team.

Wilshere, who earned 34 caps for England and played nearly 200 games for Arsenal, also had loan spells at Bolton and Bournemouth. He made the switch from Arsenal to West Ham in 2018 before heading back to Bournemouth and eventually landing at Danish side AGF. Throughout his career, Wilshere had the chance to work under the likes of Arsene Wenger, Fabio Capello, and Eddie Howe. The former England star decided to hang up his boots at the young age of 30 due to injury.
